Contact Lens

A contact lens, or simply contact, is a thin lens placed directly on the surface of the eye. Contact lenses are considered medical devices and can be worn to correct vision, or for cosmetic or therapeutic reasons. People choose to wear contact lenses for many reasons. Aesthetics and cosmetics are the main motivating factors for people who want to avoid wearing glasses or to change the appearance of their eyes.[6] Others wear contact lenses for functional or optical reasons.

Types of Contact Lenses

Soft Contact Lenses : Soft contact lenses are made of soft, flexible plastics that allow oxygen to pass through to the cornea. Soft contact lenses may be easier to adjust to and are more comfortable. Newer soft lens materials include silicone-hydrogels to provide more oxygen to your eye while you wear your lenses.

Rigid Contact Lenses : Rigid contact lenses are more durable and resistant to deposit buildup, and generally give a clearer, crisper vision. They tend to be less expensive over the life of the lens since they last longer. They are very easier to handle and less likely to tear.

Extended Wear Contact Lenses : Extended wear contact lenses are available for overnight or continuous wear ranging from one to six nights or up to 30 days. These lenses require little or no cleaning and have minimal risk of eye infection if it is worn correctly.

Disposable Contact Lenses : These latest generation lenses are available as spherical and toric contact lenses which can be disposed as either quarterly, monthly, fortnightly, weekly or on a daily basis.

Cosmetic (Decorative) Contact Lenses : These lenses used mainly by the youth to give a cosmetic appearance to their eyes by changing the eye color. These types of lens are available in variety of colors.
